New York, NY — Pegasus Prints + Sidel & McElwreath in partnership with Exhibition A, will be publishing an original series, entitled Print Aid, of limited-edition silkscreen prints in response to the distress caused by COVID-19. This is a collective effort to spread creativity and assistance throughout the art community. Each print will support an artist whose practice has been affected by the pandemic, with a portion of proceeds going to The Artist’s Fellowship, Inc, a non-profit organization that financially assists professional visual artists and their families in times of emergency, disability or bereavement.
Print Aid is curated by Emily McElwreath and Evan Pepper of art consultancy Sidel & McElwreath. The initial suite of prints will be by artists Caris Reid, Kim Dorland, and Jennifer Caviola. “We wanted to bring artists together in support of our creative community during this time,” says McElwreath. “The three artists chosen to launch Print Aid were selected based on their relationship with nature and humanity that speaks to our collective need for connection right now.”
The prints will be created by Ali Sahmel of Pegasus Prints, a painter, printmaker and chromist, who recently opened her own silkscreen studio after more than 10 years at Two Palms. “Pegasus Prints is proud to be a part of such a special project that is rooted in connection and support. We thank our artists who helped us launch Print Aid,” says Sahmel. Throughout her career, Sahmel has worked with Chuck Close, Elizabeth Peyton, Cecily Brown, Mel Bochner, among many others.
Each print will be priced at $200, in an edition of 50, and will be available for sale on contemporary art website ExhibitionA.com.
Over the next several weeks, Print Aid will continue to work with artists whose projects have been cancelled or postponed due to COVID-19. Exhibition A is welcoming submissions via projects@exhibitiona.com.
